Spring Village of Pyrizhna

The village of Pyrizhna is considered one of the oldest pottery centres in Ukraine. The rich deposits of several types of pottery have contributed to the emergence of this craft. And the quality of ceramic products is known to depend primarily on the quality of raw materials.

The art of pottery in Pyrizhna was passed down from generation to generation, and at the end of the 19th century there were about 150 potters in this village!

Local villagers have restored old gutters, where you can slowly get ice water from an old well with a wooden sweep, sit in the shade near the fence, or have a picnic at a long table.

In Pyrizhna there are also healing water wells, which are even described in ancient legends. People come to the Demko’s wells to drink water, wash and shower with it, since this water is really healing. However, the miracles with healing waters in Pyrizhna don’t end here. Fotin's well is also hidden in the hills and waiting for tourists. No one in the village can remember who built it first, but the belief that water from that well can cure sight loss is passed down from generation to generation. But certain requirements should be met. You have to go to the well before sunrise, silently, without talking to anyone. Then you have to pray at the well, get some water, throw a few coins into the well, and return home silently as well. You should wash your eyes with healing water until fully recovered. Local people give many examples of healing. In addition, the water cures not only sight loss, but also other diseases. Actually, it can help not only when got at dawn, but also at any other times of the day.

It is easy to reach the village of Pyrizhna by railway through the town of Kodyma in the Odessa region or by the T1611 highway.
